GUY CHAPMAN
I’m a journalist, editor, and storyteller with more than eight years of newsroom experience and over two decades of writing across print, digital, and freelance spaces. My background spans community news, entertainment coverage, travelogues, and long-form storytelling, with a focus on clarity, accuracy, and engaging narratives that connect with readers.
In my recent work with two East Texas newspapers, I’ve developed a reputation for wearing multiple hats: writing, editing, layout, research, and deadline management (often all at once). I’m especially drawn to stories that sit at the intersection of culture and community, whether that’s local events, human-interest features, or entertainment-driven content.
Before and alongside my journalism career, I’ve worked in the entertainment and gaming industries, contributing to projects tied to major brands and gaining firsthand experience in how stories are told across different mediums. That perspective continues to shape my approach to writing: cinematic when it needs to be, efficient when it has to be, and always mindful of the audience.
I’m currently exploring opportunities in remote writing, freelance, and editorial work, where I can continue to grow while contributing meaningful, well-crafted content.
I’ve had one of those “you can’t make this up” careers.
At one point, I worked in the video game industry on a major fighting game franchise. At another, I was on a Hollywood film set as a background pirate aboard two of the most iconic ships in modern cinema. I’ve been on stage with some of the biggest names in the music industry, and had my own morning radio show. I even learned how to cook up some authentic Cajun gumbo in a restaurant next door to a haunted house. Somewhere in between, I built a career in journalism telling real stories in real communities.
That mix: games, film, and news, gives me a slightly different lens than most writers. I understand how stories entertain, how they inform, and how they stick with people long after they’re told.
